This database contains folklore texts collected by the Polish ethnographer Stefania Ulanowska in the 1890s, published 1891-1895 (see attachment "UlanowskaBiblio" for references). The original edition contained the Latgalian texts written in the semi-standardized writing system of the time and a Polish translation. We have added here a transliteration based on the current orthography (see attachement "UlanowskaTranslit" for details). All fairy tales (baśnie), some of the short tales (fraszki) and some of the songs have been translated into English (see listing below). For some tales and songs a recording was added (see listing below).
Ulanowska 1892, 104-183: Songs. Abbreviations: Kdz. Wedding songs; Kkr. Short verses sung at weddings; Rokr. Various short verses; Koly. Lullabies; Gon. Shepherds' songs; Bor. Orphan girls' songs; Kar. Soldiers' songs; Hum. Humorous songs; Roz. Various; Diw. Religious songs. The following songs have a recording and an English translation: Kdz. 6 (Teišam jīveņu sylā stotom), Kdz. 7 (Gaismeņa ausa (Oi, agri, agri)), Kdz. 26 (Moza, moza uobeļnīca), Kkr. 1 (Dzīd ar vīnu), Kkr. 2 (Na eļkšņom taidy goldy), Kar. 2 (Buoleņš guoja karakaltu), Roz. 3 (Sādādama sev duorzeņā), Roz. 13 (Es byutumu šūrudin).

Ulanowska 1895, 236-474: Fairy tales (baśnie). All fairy tales have been translated into English. The following tales have been recorded: 2. Ap kozeniom; 4. Ap gaileiti; 7. Ap kungu, kurs apsavedēs; 8. Ap kalvi; 11. Ap valnu II; 12. Ap valnu III; 13. Ap zagli; 15. Ap Duraku II; 19. Ap lopsu; 20. Ap začeiti.
Ulanowska 1895, 474-492: Short funny stories (fraszki). The following stories have been translated into English and come with a recording: Glupa sīva (2), Muote i meita (6), Brauc cilvāks ar linim (7), Sīva vuorej putru (9), Sīva, kur namuok aust (10), Baznīckungs i saiminīki (11), Dīvs i valns (12), Zaglis pi baznīckunga (15), Tuksneits (16). Two further stories have an English translation, but no recording: Mužiceņš i starostys (20) and Popa kolps (22).
